On 10 July 2018, Riyad Mahrez signed a five-year contract with Manchester City for £60 million, becoming the most expensive African footballer and the club's most expensive acquisition to date. He made his debut on August 5 in a 2-0 win over Chelsea to win the FA Super Cup. He scored his first goal for City on 29 October 2018, dedicating it to the late Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, former owner of Leicester City. In February 2019, he won his second title with City in the League Cup final. By the end of his first season, Mahrez had helped City win the Premier League and FA Cup, winning a total of four titles.

In August 2019, Mahrez missed the FA Super Cup due to health problems with the Algerian national team. On 28 November 2020, he scored his first City hat-trick in a 5–0 win over Burnley. Mahrez renewed his contract on July 15, 2022, extending it until 2025.
